Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024 keynote was certainly interesting. It was packed full of new software, updates and features, which was a slight surprise figuring Apple recently made a huge release with their new iPad Pro M4 and M2 iPad Air.

From iOS 18, VisionOS 2 all the way to a new and improved SIRI, here’s everything announced at the 2024 WWDC keynote.
The Next Generation of VisionOS
One of the more standout moments of the WWDC 2024 keynote was the introduction of VisionOS 2, the latest iteration of the operating system powering Apple’s Vision Pro headset (Which we’ve covered a lot!)

The updates to this immersive platform focuses on enhancing the user experience and unlocking new creative possibilities through:
Spatial Photos
Perhaps the most innovative feature of VisionOS 2 was the introduction of spatial photos.
Using advanced machine learning algorithms, the platform now allows users to transform regular images into fully immersive, three-dimensional experiences.
With the ability to explore these photos from multiple angles, users can relive moments in a whole new way.
Improved Integration with the Mac
Another key enhancement to VisionOS 2 was the improved integration with the Mac ecosystem.
Users can now mirror their Mac’s display directly within the headset and even control their computer using intuitive gestures and eye movements.
This integration is intended to improve productivity, collaboration, and entertainment whilst using Vision Pro.
Tabletop Gaming
VisionOS 2 also has the ability to create immersive tabletop gaming experiences.
Developers can now leverage the platform’s spatial capabilities to project virtual game boards and pieces, allowing users to engage in board game sessions.
Updates to iOS 18
As expected, Apple’s flagship mobile operating system, iOS 18, captured a lot of attention at WWDC 2024.

Apple announced new features and enhancements such as:
Personalized Home Screens
iOS 18 now has the ability to customize the home screen by taking advantage of dark mode and colour filters to create personalized layouts.
Revamped Photos App
The Photos app in iOS 18 has undergone an overhaul, introducing new organizational features and discovery tools.
Users can more easily filter out screenshots and other clutter, while the app’s automated categorization should ensure you don’t delete images you intended to keep.
Intuitive Control Center
The Control Center in iOS 18 has been upgraded to allow users to more easily manage their apps and tools. From controlling music playback to interacting with smart home devices.
Secure App Locking
In a move to bolster user privacy, iOS 18 introduces a new app locking feature. Users can now lock individual apps, requiring Face ID or Touch ID authentication before granting access.
WatchOS 11: Better Health and Fitness Tracking
The Apple Watch has long been a cornerstone of the company’s ecosystem, we’ve covered the various models from the SE to the Ultra, so the latest iteration of its operating system, WatchOS 11, is certainly intriguing.

Vitals Monitoring
WatchOS 11 has updated its vitals monitoring capabilities compared to it’s WatchOS 10 predecessor.
The Apple Watch can now track a user’s heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, and sleep patterns, providing valuable insights into their overall health and well-being.
Workout Tracking
WatchOS 11 also introduces new tools to help users workout routines.
The platform now includes a feature that rates the intensity of each workout, with the aim to allow users to challenge themselves.
Additionally, the Apple Watch can now connect to Bluetooth-enabled accessories.
Menstrual Cycle Tracking
Another significant update to WatchOS 11 is the improved menstrual cycle tracking capabilities.
Users can now leverage the Apple Watch to monitor their cycles, receive personalized insights, and get notifications about potential health concerns related to their reproductive health.
Pause Activity Rings
With WatchOS 11, users can now pause their activity rings without fear of losing their streaks.
Siri And AI
One of the most significant announcements at WWDC 2024 was the integration of Apple Intelligence, the company’s latest foray into the world of artificial intelligence, across its entire ecosystem.

This integration was particularly evident in the enhancements made to Siri, Apple’s virtual assistant which we’ve had some opinions about in the past.
Improved Conversational Capabilities
Siri’s natural language processing has been improved (thankfully!) allowing the assistant to better understand context and follow the flow of conversations.
Users can now engage in back-and-forth dialogues with Siri, transitioning between topics and commands without the need for repetitive phrasing (hopefully).
Text-Based Interaction
In addition to voice commands, Siri now supports text-based interaction, enabling users to communicate with the assistant discreetly in situations where speaking aloud may not be appropriate.
Intelligent Summarization and Transcription
Siri’s integration with Apple Intelligence also brings enhanced summarization and transcription capabilities.
Users can now ask Siri to provide concise summaries of lengthy articles or documents, or request transcripts of recorded conversations, making it easier to stay informed and organized.
Integration with Apple’s Ecosystem
Users can now leverage the assistant’s capabilities across a wide range of devices and applications, from composing emails and scheduling appointments to controlling smart home devices and generating custom emojis.
MacOS Sequoia
Apple also released macOS Sequoia at their 2024 WWDC.

This operational system is the latest iteration and upgrade from Sonoma. Sequoia promises a host of new features and improvements that cater to the needs of both power users and casual consumers.
iPhone Mirroring
MacOS Sequoia has the ability to mirror an iPhone’s display directly on the Mac.
This seamless integration allows users to access their mobile apps, files, and data directly from their desktop, streamlining workflows and enhancing productivity.
Revamped Safari
Apple’s web browser, Safari, received a significant overhaul in macOS Sequoia.
The updated version now features AI-powered summarization tools, making it easier for users to quickly grasp the key points of lengthy articles and webpages. Additionally, the browser’s performance has been optimized, delivering a smoother and more responsive browsing experience.
Tiling Windows
MacOS Sequoia also has tiling windows to help organise cluttered desktops.
Users can now arrange their open applications and documents in a more intuitive and efficient manner.
Expanded Gaming Capabilities
Apple has also made strides in improving the gaming experience on the Mac.
With the integration of the new Game Porting Toolkit 2, developers can more easily bring their latest titles to the platform, giving users access to a wider selection of high-quality games optimized for the Mac’s hardware.
Password Management with the New Passwords App
One of the less flashy but still important announcements at the latest WWDC was the introduction of Apple’s new Passwords app.

Here’s what you need to know:
Consolidated Password Management
The Passwords app consolidates all of a user’s login information, including passwords, passkeys, and two-factor authentication codes, into a single, secure platform.
Automatic Password Generation and Updating
The Passwords app also features advanced password generation and updating capabilities.
When users create new accounts or update existing ones, the app can automatically generate strong, unique passwords and seamlessly update them across all of the user’s devices.
Cross-Platform Accessibility
Unlike previous password management solutions tied to Apple’s ecosystem, the new Passwords app will be available across multiple platforms, including Windows and Android.
This accessibility allows users to manage their credentials regardless of the devices they use, making it a truly universal solution for password management.
AI-Powered Tools
As we have touched upon above, Apple unveiled the integration of Apple Intelligence at WWDC. Apple Intelligence is the company’s artificial intelligence platform, across a wide range of applications and features.

Like so:
Genmoji: Personalized Emoji Generation
Apple’s new “Genmoji” feature allows users to generate custom emojis simply by describing what they want.
Whether it’s a smiley face wearing sunglasses or a dancing penguin, Genmoji harnesses the power of AI to bring users’ creative visions to life.
AI-Powered Writing Assistance
Apple Intelligence also introduces a suite of AI-powered writing tools, including a “Rewrite” feature that can transform text into different tones and styles, as well as a proofreading tool that can catch grammatical errors and suggest improvements.
These features aim to empower users, particularly those who struggle with effective written communication, to express themselves more confidently.
Intelligent Summarization and Annotation
The integration of Apple Intelligence extends to the Safari web browser as well, with the introduction of an AI-powered “Highlights” feature.
This tool can automatically generate concise summaries of webpages and articles, helping users quickly grasp the key information without having to read through lengthy content. Additionally, users can leverage AI to annotate and interact with web-based materials in more meaningful ways.
Expanded Connectivity and Accessibility
WWDC 2024 also saw Apple make strides in improving the connectivity and accessibility of its devices.

RCS Support in Messages
One of the long-awaited features announced at the event was the addition of RCS (Rich Communication Services) support in the Messages app.
This next-generation messaging standard aims to enhance the texting experience between iOS and Android users, reducing the frustration associated with the “green bubble” phenomenon.
Satellite-Powered Messaging
Apple also unveiled a new “Messages via Satellite” feature, which allows users to send and receive messages even in areas with no cellular or Wi-Fi coverage by leveraging satellite technology
Hands-Free AirPods Controls
The latest iteration of AirPods introduces a unique hands-free control feature, enabling users to answer or ignore incoming calls simply by nodding or shaking their head.
This innovative gesture-based interaction is particularly useful in situations where traditional voice commands may not be practical or discreet.
New Hardware Announcements
While the software updates were undoubtedly the main focus of WWDC 2024, Apple also unveiled several new hardware offerings.

They include a:
Larger MacBook Air
One of the hardware highlights was the introduction of a new 15-inch MacBook Air model.
This larger variant of the popular ultraportable laptop promises to deliver the same sleek design and impressive performance, but with a more expansive display for enhanced productivity and multimedia experiences.
Mac Studio and Mac Pro Updates
Apple also refreshed its desktop offerings, the Mac Studio and Mac Pro, with the latest M2 Ultra chip.
International Expansion of the Vision Pro
These chips are designed to cater to the needs of professional users, offering more processing power and expanded customization options to meet the demands of resource-intensive workflows.
In a move to make its mixed-reality headset more accessible to global audiences, Apple announced the expansion of the Vision Pro‘s availability to several new international markets.
