Amazon Releases Alexa+ in the UK, and It’s Free With Prime

Alexa+ arrives in the UK with a more advanced language model to facilitate natural conversations and cross-app tasks, with a healthy dose of added British slang.

    Need-to-knows

    • Alexa+ comes free with Prime, or £19.99 a month
    • Refined language model attempts to tap into region-specific speech
    • Increased capability to perform cross-app tasks

Amazon has announced the UK launch of Alexa+, a next-generation version of its voice assistant that introduces an updated language model, region-specific conversations and the ability to carry out more advanced, daisy-chained commands.

Alexa+ was released first in the USA on 4th February 2026, but now it’s on UK shores for the first time with an added ‘Bri’ish’ twang, plus the promise to deliver Alexa+ in browser form soon.

A new AI model at the core

At the heart of Alexa+ is a more advanced generative AI model designed to make interactions more natural and context-aware.

As demonstrated in their release event on 18th March, users will be able to speak to Alexa in a more conversational way, with the assistant capable of understanding more intricate follow-up questions and maintaining context across multiple requests. This is aimed at removing the need to interact with Alexa in a rigid way and making it capable of following the flow of more natural commands.

The term ‘agentic AI’ has become very popular of late, and although Amazon didn’t mention it, this is their move towards making Alexa a more capable, assistant-like tool rather than a simple voice-controlled interface for smart home devices and basic queries.

    Region-specific language

Alexa+ for the UK is, well, designed for a UK audience. Amazon has worked to try to make Alexa sound more British in its use of language, throwing in the occasional ‘mate’, sarcastic joke and ‘cor-blimey guvnor!’ (just joking on that last one).

But it isn’t just language, Alexa+ should be more contextually aware of British cultural norms and quirks. At the product demo, we were shown Alexa engaging in a chat about Monster Munch, using the Echo Show’s on-device camera to identify the packet of crisps. All in all, this should result in a less generic life with Alexa.

    Focus on task completion

Amazon is also introducing more advanced task handling with Alexa+, positioning it as a more proactive digital assistant. And from the demos at the launch event, this seemed to play out in real life.

The company demonstrated that Alexa+ can manage multi-step requests and interact with third-party services on behalf of the user. This includes things like asking for a restaurant recommendation, followed by a request to reserve a table (via OpenTable compatibility), then adding it to your calendar and emailing your friend to tell them all about it.

Or, you can tell Alexa+ about your family so she can learn about your specific contexts, like the fact that every Monday you need to get three hours earlier than usual to get your kids to pre-school sports practice. Or that your partner hates broccoli, so recipe suggestions should ignore that.

Put simply, Alexa+ is aimed at working across as many apps, functions and commands as it can, reducing the need to get your phone out to check something, or repeatedly activate Alexa to carry out multiple functions.

    UK availability

Alexa+ is rolling out in the UK as of the 19th March 2026. It is compatible with the most recent set of Echo devices, plus a few older models which need to be registered for an update in order to receive Alexa+.

It costs £19.99 a month, or it comes free if you’re a Prime customer. At this point, if you aren’t already making use of Prime to save money on all of Amazon’s other bits and bobs that you use, then…why?

Some features may also take a bit of time to fully make their way to your device. There was also a hint from Amazon that Alexa+ would be accessible on a web browser too, but no specific release date was given.

Alexa+ looks useful for people who already rely on Prime and smart home routines. I like the idea of more natural conversations, especially for setting reminders, comparing products, or managing a shopping list while cooking. Better cross-app support could make everyday tasks feel less clunky. I recently searched “ are amazon mystery boxes a scam ” after seeing several tempting offers, so having an assistant that can help organize shopping questions and provide clear information would be convenient. The British slang addition is a fun touch too. As long as privacy settings remain easy to understand, this feels like a practical upgrade for many households.
