iPhone 17e vs Pixel 10a: The Differences That Actually Matter

When trying to save some money, is it better to go Pixel 10a or iPhone 17e? That's what we're here to find out!

    Need-to-Knows

    • Pixel 10a has a 120Hz refresh rate display and a larger battery
    • iPhone 17e offers 256GB base storage and MagSafe
    • Pixel 10a has a more flexible camera system
    • Day-to-day performance is fast on both

Apple and Google approach affordable phones in completely different ways, and that’s exactly what makes this comparison worth your time.

The iPhone 17e sticks to what Apple does best. It refines an already solid formula without changing much.

The Google Pixel 10a pushes in the opposite direction. It adds features, especially around AI and photography, to stand out.

So this isn’t really about which one is better. It’s about which one fits how you actually use your phone.

A smooth display you might actually notice

The Pixel 10a has a clear advantage here.

It uses a 120Hz OLED display, which makes scrolling and animations feel much smoother. Once you’ve used it, going back to 60Hz can feel a bit dated.

The iPhone 17e sticks with a 60Hz panel. Which still makes the display sharp and colour-accurate, but it doesn’t feel as fluid side-by-side.

Check out my full iPhone 17e review!

And this really is something you only notice when you use them next to eachother. Yes, the 60Hz display is less slick, but after using it for a few hours, you won’t notice it until you use another 120Hz display again.

Storage vs features: A practical trade-off

Apple makes a very sensible move with the iPhone 17e.

It starts at 256GB of storage, which removes one of the biggest annoyances with cheaper phones, meaning you don’t have to constantly think about space. The Pixel 10a starts at 128GB, but does offer a 256GB option if you’re willing to pay more.

    So the trade-off is simple

iPhone = more storage out of the box

Pixel = more features for the price

A more flexible camera on the Pixel

This is one of the most important differences.

The iPhone 17e keeps things simple with a single 48MP camera. It’s consistent, reliable, and produces great results with minimal effort.

The Pixel 10a adds an ultrawide camera alongside its main sensor, which immediately gives you more shooting options.

More: iPhone 17e vs iPhone 16e

On top of that, Google’s software features like Magic Eraser, Best Take, and Night Sight make a noticeable difference in how you can edit and improve photos.

    In practice:

iPhone is better for simple, point-and-shoot reliability

Pixel is better if you want flexibility and editing tools.

Performance Differences You Won’t Really Feel

The iPhone 17e runs on Apple’s A19 chip, while the Pixel 10a uses the Tensor G4.

On paper, Apple still has the edge.

In reality, both phones are already fast enough that the difference won’t matter for most people. Apps open quickly, scrolling is smooth, and everyday use feels identical.

Check out our list of the best phones!

Where the iPhone may pull ahead is over time, as Apple’s chips tend to age very well.

So again, it’s less about speed and more about how power is used.

Battery life: Pixel has the edge

The Pixel 10a includes a larger 5,100 mAh battery and is rated for longer use.

That gives it a real advantage on paper, especially for heavier users like me.

The iPhone 17e is still an all-day phone, but it relies more on chip efficiency than battery size (which is around 4,005 mAh .

For most people, both will comfortably last a day, but the Pixel gives you a bit more breathing room.

MagSafe is more useful than it sounds

One of the most anticipated upgrades on the iPhone 17e was the addition of MagSafe.

It lets you use magnetic chargers, mounts, and accessories that snap into place without having to put on a compatible case. It’s one of those features that ends up being more useful the longer you use it.

My list of the best phone accessories!

The Pixel 10a did not get support for Pixelsnap, Google’s own version of MagSafe. That means it supports standard wireless charging, which works fine, but doesn’t offer the same level of speed.

    What’s the same?

Despite the differences, the overall experience is very similar.

    Both phones:

    • Feel fast in everyday use
    • Have strong main cameras
    • Last a full day on charge
    • Use high-quality OLED displays

Basically, most people would be happy with either of these phones.

Which phone should you buy: iPhone 17e or Google Pixel 10a?

This isn’t a case of one phone clearly beating the other.

If you want a smoother display, more camera flexibility beyond the main lens, and a larger battery, the Pixel 10a is a great pick.

If you rate that extra storage out of the box highly, MagSafe support, and a familiar iPhone experience, the iPhone 17e makes more sense.

In actuality, the main thing that will help you decide is the ecosystem you prefer. If you go down the iPhone 17e route then you will be locking yourself into the Apple ecosystem in future. Everyone who buys an iPhone eventually get drawn in, no matter how much you try to avoid it.

The Pixel 10a is obviously an Android phone. If you aren’t absolutely dead set on getting an iPhone, then the Pixel 10a is better value, simply due to the extra camera lens you get.

Neither is a bad option and it just depends on which specs you value most and the manufacturer you want to commit to. Which would you choose? Let me know below!
