Samsung Teases Galaxy Z Fold 7 with AI Camera Revolution and Sleeker Design

Thinness and AI seem to be the order of the day for the next Z Fold edition.

In a teaser campaign dropped this week, Samsung has begun peeling back the layers on its next-generation foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold 7. And this time, it’s not just about screens that bend or titanium shells. It’s about the camera. Specifically, a camera infused with a level of AI that suggests Samsung’s flagship foldable might soon do more than just take photos.

Unveiled via an official teaser video and confirmed by a string of leaks and press briefings, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is being positioned as the most refined iteration of Samsung’s foldable ambitions yet. Headlining the new features is what the company is calling the ‘Ultra Camera’: an on-device intelligence system designed to turn every snap into something context-aware.

Exactly what all this means is unknown, but it is likely to take the form of AI-led suggestions for photos based on situational factors and possibly even notes about what you are looking at.

Samsung claims the new camera system will “understand” scenes, process data in real time, and integrate with its broader Galaxy AI ecosystem. It fits with some of the thing Samsung has developed elsewhere. For example, their smart fridge range can connect to your Samsung phone and show you its contents. Then, using AI, your phone will suggest recipes.

Latest: Foldable iPhone could use a unique hinge design

The Fold 7 itself, meanwhile, is rumoured to be the slimmest and lightest Galaxy foldable yet. A redesigned hinge mechanism and a titanium backplate have reportedly helped shave a few millimetres and grams off the profile. While we’re still waiting on a full spec drop, leaks point to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 3 chipset, a 4,400 mAh battery, and continued support for wireless charging and UWB.

In terms of the camera, expect a triple-lens rear system—likely built around a 200MP primary sensor, borrowed from the S25-series line. Whether these smarter camera features will also come to other Samsung phones via a software update is also unclear at this stage.

This focus on AI in foldables could be seen as a fairly major shift. Foldables began as engineering conundrums, with each iteration focusing on how good the hinge was. Of course, this still remains, but marketing via software suggests a level of confidence that Samsung (and other manufacturers) have reached in their hardware.

We expect the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to be officially revealed in July at Samsung’s summer Unpacked event. Pricing is rumoured to start around $1,899, unchanged from the Fold 6, although one leak does suggest a $100 price increase.
