With the introduction of the M4 iPad Pro and M2 iPad Air earlier this month, Apple has been enjoying a proud tech glow. And creative professionals can’t wait to bask in it.

Especially video editors and music producers.

The latest updates to Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for iPad Pro and Air are exciting and here’s why…

Live Multicam: A Portable Multicam Studio

One of the more standout features in the latest iteration of Final Cut Pro for iPad Pro is the introduction of Live Multicam.

The idea is that your iPad can turn into a portable multicam production studio, allowing users to capture, preview, and direct up to four camera angles simultaneously.

By integrating with the new Final Cut Camera app, editors can wirelessly connect multiple iPhones or iPads, providing a director’s view of each feed and the ability to fine-tune settings like exposure, white balance, and focus directly from the Final Cut Pro interface.

    Expanded Storage Flexibility

Another enhancement in Final Cut Pro 2 for iPad Pro is the introduction of external project support.

This feature allows users to create or open projects directly on external storage devices, eliminating the need to import media and consume valuable iPad storage.

Editors can now work with high-resolution files, professional codecs like ProRes and Log, and seamlessly hand off projects to collaborators or transfer them to the Mac version of Final Cut Pro.

M4 Performance with Final Cut Pro

Powered by the M4 chip, Final Cut Pro 2 for the 2024 iPad Pro delivers improved performance gains.

Users can now take advantage of faster rendering speeds and support for more streams of ProRes RAW, enabling them to tackle graphically intensive timelines and apply complex colour grading and effects with greater ease.

In general, Apple’s latest M4 chip, combined with the intuitive touch-based interface of the iPad, allows editors improved precision and power.

    Session Players

Logic Pro 2 for iPad Pro 2024 introduces a feature called Session Players, which expands upon the Drummer capabilities of the app.

Using AI, Session Players now include intelligent Bass and Keyboard players, providing dynamic and authentic-sounding accompaniment tracks that can integrate into your compositions.

This will be ideal for both emerging artists and experienced producers.

    ChromaGlow: Analog Warmth

Delving deeper into the enhancements in Logic Pro 2, the new ChromaGlow plugin leverages a machine which aims to recreate the nuances of classic studio equipment.

This feature imbues your recordings with a warm, analog-inspired character, adding depth and texture to mixes.

By dialling in the perfect tone and choosing from five distinct saturation styles, you can infuse your tracks with vintage-inspired sonics.

    Stem Splitter: Remixing

Another addition to Logic Pro 2 is the Stem Splitter feature, which employs advanced AI algorithms to isolate individual elements within a mixed audio recording.

Stem Splitter enables the user to extract tracks for drums, bass, vocals, and other instruments. Whether you’re looking to apply targeted effects, tweak the mix, or experiment with alternative arrangements, Stem Splitter makes the remixing process better.

Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro on the New M4 iPad Pro and M2 Air

The updates to Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for the iPad Pro and Air lineups are moving tablets closer to MacBooks, and improving the work of creative professionals.

The introduction of Live Multicam in Final Cut Pro 2 will be great for filmmakers in video production, transforming the iPad into a portable, collaborative, and highly versatile multicam device.

Meanwhile, the expanded storage flexibility and enhanced rendering speeds enable editors to work with greater efficiency, with easier transitioning between the iPad and the Mac.

In the realm of music production, Logic Pro 2 for iPad Pro and Air delivers AI-powered Session Players, a ChromaGlow plugin, and Stem Splitter feature. Making life easier for music producers.
