If you’ve just bought a new phone, there’s one thing you absolutely need; a good quality case. If you don’t use one, then you’re asking for trouble! Trust me, I’ve used a lot of phones and therefore a lot of phone cases.
Lately, I’ve been using Peak Design’s case for my iPhone 16 Pro Max as well as their compatible wallet and I’ve been struck by the quality on offer for what is a pretty average price point. Not only are the materials premium but the protection offered is excellent.
Best of all, Peak Design has put real effort into constructing a useful ecosystem of other accessories. But more on that later! Let’s start with the key information.

Phone Case
We’ll start with the phone case. I’ve been using Peak’s Everyday Case For iPhone on my iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Design and feel
The first thing you notice is just how premium this thing feels. The rear of the outer body is made from Versa Shell nylon which gives it a nice grippy texture, and the sides are made from rubberised TPU that is almost like Alcantara (the sort of suede material you find on car seats) to the touch.

The combination of these two materials means the Peak Design case is not only comfortable to hold for long periods, but also much less slippy than other cases.
My favourite Mac mini accessories
There are six colours to choose from. I picked Tan (which is as close to orange as I could get!) but all the colours are richly toned and muted. The Sage colour is particularly striking.
At 3.4mm thick on the sides, it isn’t chunky at all considering it’s an all-encompassing case. That means the profile of the iPhone isn’t altered too much and it still fits perfectly well in your pocket. The only issue I can foresee with the case is that the USB-C port recession is quite deep so some fatter cable ends may not fit, but Apple’s standard charging cable has no issues.

The thing I really love about the Peak case is the buttons. On so many phone cases, the buttons feel soft, unresponsive and have no satisfying mechanical feel. Peak Design has smashed it out of the park here.
The buttons are made from anodised aluminium and stick out from the side of the case, meaning they are easy to locate. Best of all, they actually feel like buttons when you press them; a pleasing ‘click’.

Peak has also opted for a cut-out to accommodate the Camera Control button which I much prefer to cases that try and cover it with their own responsive material. Oh, and it is MagSafe compatible too!
Protection and durability
Looking nice and feeling comfortable is all well and good, but a case is there primarily to protect your phone.
In terms of dust and moisture, the Peak Design iPhone case handles both well. Dust and debris wipe off fine and don’t stick. If you’ve ever used a rubber phone case, you’ll know how easily they attract fluff and dirt and they are extremely hard to keep clean. That isn’t a problem here.

The Peak Design case has a stated drop protection of two metres (six feet) which holds true from my testing. The case also features lips over both the screen and camera lenses. That means when you drop it, the phone will never land on the screen or camera. I wouldn’t buy any case that doesn’t have these protective lips.

The main body is made of an ultralight polycarbonate body and feels sturdy even without a phone inside to give it structure. Durability of the case material remains to be seen, but so far so good!
Wallet
The great thing about Peak Design is its commitment to creating a high-quality ecosystem. We all know how much I love Apple’s ecosystem, so when I encounter another one, I’ll happily dive right in.
Peak’s phone cases all come with a high-strength ceramic locking ring so you can attach one of their various accessories to the rear. I have been using their Mobile Wallet but they also make wallets that double as stands, a tripod, wireless charging stand and a range of mounts for different environments.

The wallet can easily hold four cards but probably has a capacity nearer to six. I don’t know who has six cards to carry around these days but if that’s you, Peak Design has you covered!
What’s really impressive about the wallet is the magnetic attachment to the case. It’s hard to describe but the magnets are very strong and I can’t envision any accidental movement knocking the wallet off. But simultaneously, it comes off easily when you want it to. A perfect combo.

The ability to flip open the magnetic flap to reveal the cards is a brilliant design. And that sums up Peak Design’s products; they are obviously designed with care, attention and the user experience in mind. I’m reviewing Peak’s bag range at the moment and even at this early stage I can tell you they continue the theme!
Should you buy a Peak Design phone case?
Peak Design’s case for the iPhone 16 is one of the best phone cases I’ve ever used, it’s that simple. There isn’t anything I can think of to fault. The same can be said about the wallet.
The case for iPhone 16 is priced at $49/£39 which sounds like a lot but actually isn’t when you look at the price of other premium phone case brands. Peak’s price is about average. Besides, you get what you pay for, and with Peak Design that means a premium look and feel combined with considered, user-focused design.
This is a phone case for life (at least the life of your iPhone!) so spending the money is absolutely worth it.
