Does the Tesla Model 3 truly live up to the hype?
I took the 2024 Tesla on a 350-mile journey from Leamington Spa to Loch Lomond all in the name of testing whether this electric vehicle could handle the demands of a cross-country drive and I learnt a lot.
Here are my thoughts…
Spoiler alert: It wasn’t just the car that impressed me.
The Journey: Tesla Model 3 vs. The Long Road
Having driven a Porsche Taycan and a BMW i5 M60 in previous tests, I had a clear benchmark for what a UK road trip in an electric vehicle could look like.

Both of those EVs presented their own challenges when it came to both maintaining charge and finding charging stations.
So, when I set out to test the Tesla Model 3, I was eager to see if it could change the narrative.
Route and Strategy
My route was straightforward: from Leamington Spa to Loch Lomond, covering approximately 348 miles.

The plan was to rely exclusively on Tesla’s superchargers and the car’s routing system. No detours, no gimmicks—just a real-world test of how well Tesla’s infrastructure supports long-distance travel.
I had a personal twist to this trip—squeezing in a pit stop to catch the England vs. Denmark game.
But besides that, the focus was solely on experiencing the latest Tesla Model 3 car as it was intended to be used.
The Tesla Model 3 Experience: Observations and Reflections
Driving Experience
In short, the Tesla Model 3 electric car is incredibly easy to drive.
It’s intuitive, with features like keyless entry, automatic parking brake disengagement, and lane-change indicators that cancel automatically.

It’s hard to explain, but the driving experience on the 2024 Tesla 3 felt like a computer game—everything from acceleration to steering felt electronically controlled.
Interior
In my opinion, the Tesla Model 3 design offers a spacious and comfortable interior.

The white leather adds a premium feel, and the sound system is impressive. The infotainment system is full of personality, with features like ‘Chill’ acceleration mode and ‘Emissions Testing.’
Charging and Convenience
The supercharger network proved to be a major advantage.

Charging was straightforward, and I didn’t have to worry much about the Tesla 3 battery life or finding chargers.
Having chargers in hotel car parks is a bit odd but manageable.
Final Thoughts: A new era for Tesla with the Model 3
If you’re wondering whether the Tesla Model 3 is worth it, the answer is simple. Yes, it is!
After driving over twelve hours across two days, I can confidently say that the Tesla Model 3 is a breeze to drive.
It’s comfortable, fun, and well-suited for long-distance travel. The Tesla ecosystem, including the supercharger network, is impressive and convenient.
So, does the tesla Model 3 live up to the hype?
Absolutely.
