What To Expect From The Sonos App Launch

The new Sonos App, set to be launched on May 7th 2024, will allegedly provide users with a more personalised music experience through a host of new features and improvements. This includes a customisable home screen and a universal search function that spans 100+ streaming services.

In summary, the Sonos App should grant us the ability to see/control what is playing on various devices at once, creating a one-stop hub for all things listening.

    Here’s how…

A Single Hub for Your Music

The centrepiece of the new Sonos app is its redesigned home screen, which will pool content and controls into one easy-to-find place. Allowing you to quickly jump back into your recently played music, and browse libraries and recommendations from your preferred services.

The idea is to limit the time and nuisance of switching between tabs to access different features.

    Customise Your Listening Experience

The Sonos app will also allow for customisation similar to that of a smartphone.

With this feature, you can pin rows of your favourite content and services, move them around, edit them, and rearrange them to suit your liking, making the app more manageable.

    Searching Across Services

The intuitive search bar function will allow you to search for an artist, song, podcast, or audiobook across 100 + streaming apps simultaneously.

Essentially, this will mean you don’t have to open up different apps to see what each service has, you can compare on one screen. This should be particularly useful for audiobooks and ASMR sounds.

    Enhanced System Control

One of the more useful features of the Sonos App is the remote access control. A swipe up from the bottom of your home screen will give you an overview of what’s playing on each of your products.

From there, you can group speakers, adjust the volume, and navigate through your systems.

    A Web App

Alongside the mobile app, Sonos is also launching a new web app that will replace the existing Sonos desktop controller. This web version of the app offers the same experience and features as its mobile counterpart.

    What do you think?

The customizable Home screen, universal search function, enhanced system control, and unified streaming experience all contribute to a welcome update. The launch also invited rumours of more on the horizon- could Sonos be planning a wireless headphone release?
