MediaTek, the company responsible for making the chips that power your smartphone, Chromecast, TV and more, has released some very interesting news…

The company announced at their COMPUTEX convention that they are teaming up with Arm Total Design to enhance AI applicationa as well as integrating with NVIDIA TAO to push Vision AI  on all MediaTek devices.

MediaTek & Arm Neoverse Compute Subsystems

At the heart of this partnership is MediaTek’s integration into the Arm Total Design ecosystem, an initiative that simplifies the development of products based on Arm’s Neoverse Compute Subsystems (CSS).

These advanced subsystems are designed to cater to the ever-increasing demands of AI applications, spanning data centers, infrastructure systems, telecommunications, and more.

“Together with Arm, we’re enabling our customers’ designs to meet the most challenging workloads for AI applications, maximizing performance per watt,” said Vince Hu, Corporate Vice President at MediaTek.

    What will it do?

By tapping into the capabilities of Neoverse CSS, MediaTek can develop optimized system-on-chip (SoC) solutions tailored to the specific needs of AI applications, addressing the intricate computing requirements of more demanding workloads.

    Data Centers and Infrastructure

As MediaTek expands its footprint into data centers and infrastructure systems, the partnership with Arm will accelerate AI innovation from the edge to the cloud.

The company’s expertise in hybrid computing, AI, SerDes, chiplets, and advanced packaging technologies aims to complement Arm’s world-class expertise in delivering AI-powered cloud data centers on the Neoverse CSS platform.

    Elevating Mobile Performance and Efficiency

MediaTek will also be applying its low-power architecture design on Arm CPUs to improve computing, graphics, and AI performance, while maintaining efficiency.

    Dominating the Wi-Fi Landscape

MediaTek’s work extends to the Wi-Fi market, where the company is the industry’s number one supplier across broadband, retail routers, consumer electronics devices, and gaming.

Undoubtably Arm will integrate it’s AI capabilities into a wide range of edge applications, including automotive, Chromebooks, and IoT devices used in smart homes, enterprises, and industrial environments.

Edge AI & NVIDIA TAO Integration

Recognizing the growing importance of edge AI, MediaTek has taken another significant choice by integrating NVIDIA’s TAO (Transfer Learning and Optimization) Toolkit with its NeuroPilot SDK.

This move aims to create a more seamless experience for developers as they bring edge AI, including Generative AI, capabilities to a vast array of IoT applications powered by MediaTek’s silicon.

The impact on Developers and Brands

The integration of NVIDIA TAO with MediaTek’s NeuroPilot SDK aims to enable companies of all scales to harness the potential of edge AI in diverse IoT verticals, such as smart retail, manufacturing, healthcare, transportation, and smart cities.

    Customized Vision AI

With over 100 ready-to-use pre-trained models, NVIDIA TAO allows customized vision AI capabilities for a range of solutions and use cases.

This automation of the AI model tuning process allows developers to get their products to market quickly, even without deep AI expertise, further democratizing access to cutting-edge AI technologies.

Powering the Next Generation of AI-Driven Devices

“Integrating NVIDIA TAO with MediaTek NeuroPilot will further expand our vision of democratizing access to AI, helping drive a new wave of AI-powered devices and experiences,” said CK Wang, General Manager of the IoT business unit at MediaTek.

    What do you think?

What do you think of MediaTek’s strategic partnership with Arm and its integration with NVIDIA TAO?
