Apple has announced the iPhone 17 series, the latest iteration of its flagship smartphone device. This time, alongside the usual iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models, Apple has also unveiled the iPhone Air, a new device focused entirely on being as thin and light as possible.
Whilst there aren’t any huge changes to the specifications across the board, there are some notable differences from previous models, like new colours and cooling systems. In this article, we’ll run through all of the need-to-know information about every new iPhone 17 model so you can stay clued up!

Display and Design
The iPhone 17 includes a 6.3-inch OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, the first time this has been made available by Apple on the base-level model. Previously, the ProMotion display technology has been restricted to the Pro and Pro Max models.
The new displays also come with a maximum brightness of 3000 nits (1,000 nits more than the previous iPhone 16) and an anti-reflective coating, similar to that found on the Samsung Galaxy S25 series.

It is constructed with an aluminium frame and features Ceramic Shield 2 glass on the front. The device measures 7.95mm in thickness, about 10mm thicker than the iPhone 16. Apple has also introduced a new range of colour options with the standard iPhone 17: Lavender, Mist Blue, Black, White and Sage.
Performance
This model is powered by the new A19 chipset with a 6-core CPU and 5-core GPU. It is available in two storage capacities, 256GB and 512GB, which represents an upgrade over the iPhone 16, which started at 128GB.
Camera System
The dual camera setup includes a 48MP wide sensor and a 48MP ultra-wide sensor compared to the 12MP ultrawide on the iPhone 16. Improvements in HDR and night mode should enhance low-light photography, and Apple claims that the 12MP front camera features better subject tracking for selfies and video calls.

Battery and Charging
Apple estimates up to 30 hours of video playback on a 3,692 mAh battery. Fast charging delivers 50% in around 30 minutes with a 20W adapter and it supports wireless charging via both MagSafe and Qi for the first time ever.

Display and Design
The iPhone Air is, unsurprisingly, Apple’s thinnest ever phone at 5.64mm. The design also means it is incredibly light at just 165 grams.
Alongside this comes a 6.5-inch OLED display that supports a 120Hz refresh rate, a peak brightness of 3000 nits, always-on functionality, and the same anti-reflective coating on the iPhone 17. The device is built with a Grade 5 titanium frame, has Ceramic Shield 2 on the front display glass and standard Ceramic Shield on the back.

There are four colour options, Sky Blue, Light Gold, Cloud White and Space Black, and the sides of the phone are finished in chrome.
Performance
It features the A19 Pro chip, the top-end chip for this iPhone generation, with a 5-core GPU, 6-core CPU and offers storage options of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.
Camera System
In a similar way to the old iPhone SE phones, the Air only features a single 48MP rear camera, the same main lens found on the iPhone 17, and an 18MP front camera. The rear camera features digital zoom up to 10x, 2x telephoto zoom and allows for Dolby Vision video recording at 4K up to 60 fps.
Battery and Charging
Equipped with a ~3,100mAh battery, Apple says the Air promises up to 27 hours of video playback. You also get 20W wired charging, giving 50% battery in 30 minutes and there is MagSafe compatibility.

Display and Design
The main difference between the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max models is, as usual, the display size. The iPhone 17 Pro has a 6.3-inch display, whereas the iPhone 17 Pro Max expands to 6.9 inches, with both sitting at the same pixel density. Both support ProMotion tech with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 3000 nits.
Each device features an aluminium unibody, marking a departure from Apple’s foray into titanium build materials, with Ceramic Shield 2 on the front glass and Ceramic Shield on the back. The Pro is considerably smaller than the Pro Max, measuring 150mm x 71.9mm x 8.75mm and weighing 204 grams, compared to the Pro Max, which measures 163.4mm x 78mm x 8.75mm and weighs 231 grams.

Performance
Both models use the A19 Pro chip with a 6-core CPU, 6-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine. The Pro has storage options of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB, while the Pro Max extends up to 2TB.
Camera System
Both devices feature a triple camera system that is largely the same, barring the optical zoom capabilities. The main, ultra-wide wide and telephoto lenses all have a 48MP resolution, combining a main, ultra-wide, and telephoto lens.
The main difference comes with the telephoto lens, which offers 4x optical zoom on the Pro and up to 8x optical zoom on the Pro Max. Both models support up to 40x digital zoom. Video features are consistent across both models, including Dolby Vision 4K recording, ProRes up to 4K 120fps with external storage, ProRes RAW and spatial video recording. Battery and Charging
The iPhone 17 Pro is rated for up to 31 hours of video playback, while the Pro Max extends this to 37 hours due to the larger battery size in the latter. Both support fast charging with 50% charge in around 20 minutes using a 40W adapter. They support USB-C with USB 3, MagSafe up to 25W, and Qi2 up to 25W. Both carry IP68 certification and include the new vapor chamber cooling system for thermal management.
