Apple’s budget-friendly smartwatch, the Apple Watch SE, is reportedly getting a size upgrade. According to recent supply chain analysis from Ross Young, the upcoming Apple Watch SE 3 may be available in larger 41mm and 45mm sizes, aligning with the dimensions of the Apple Watch Series 6, 7, 8 and 9.
This change would mark a departure from the current SE’s 40mm and 44mm options, offering users a tiny bit more screen real estate. The larger displays could allow for new features like additional watch faces which are sometimes restricted by Apple depending on display hardware restriction.
The Apple Watch SE line is Apple’s budget-friendly smartwatch offering, which often uses slightly older hardware from previous Apple Watch generations to cut costs. For example, the SE 2 received the S8 chip in 2022 but hasn’t been updated since.
The potential size increase would in theory offer some more value for customers with a potentially larger frame, also allowing for more battery life or updated sensor technology.
While Apple has not officially confirmed these details, the speculation also suggests we will see the new Apple Watch SE in towards the end of 2025. Apple usually saves the summer period for WWDC where it makes major software announcements with the new iPhones coming around every September. So it is likely that any new Apple Watch SE will come around October/November time.
As with all rumours, it’s best to take this information with a grain of salt until Apple makes an official announcement. However, the leaker in this case does have a good track record.
