Security cameras have come a long way from the potato-quality recordings of yesteryear. The Anona Aurora 4K camera delivers ultra-high-definition footage, meaning you can actually see details like facial expressions, license plates, or that distinctive tattoo on the guy lurking by your garage.

It’s a big deal because, in security, details matter. How many times have you watched a film and got annoyed at the Police for having CCTV so grainy that you can’t even make use of the footage? There’s no point in having a home security camera system if it doesn’t actually help you identify the subjects on film.

The Lucio camera is perhaps one of the best value security cameras out there, even without the spring sale reduction. For under $50, you get a crystal clear 2.5K resolution with 4 megapixels to provide 1.5x the quality of a 1080p camera.

Most of the features are the same as the Aurora camera, which is what adds so much value to the Lucio, including that whopping 10,000mAh battery, on-device AI detection methods and solar charging. The main difference is that the Lucio has motion detection software instead of AOV capability.

This may actually suit some people more than AOV, especially if you only have a specific spot you want to be covered. With the Lucio, you can map out an area for the motion detection to work within, anything outside of that area won’t activate the camera.

Anona Holo: Lock Your Door From Anywhere

Now, let’s talk about the Anona Holo, which may be one of the coolest smart home devices I’ve seen. It is ostensibly a box you attach to your door that can then open it without a key or any physical interaction at all.

I should say that the Anona Holo only works with single-cylinder deadbolts, but if you do have one of those then you can install the Holo yourself with a screwdriver. Once attached and set up with the Anona app, the Holo effectively makes your phone into a house key. You can lock and unlock your door using your phone even if you’re miles away. 

There’s more to it than that though. My favourite part is that the Holo is Matter compatible, meaning it syncs with all major smart home systems, including Google Home, Alexa and Apple HomePod, so you can activate the Holo with your voice. So yes, that means you can walk in from work and just say ‘Hey Siri, lock the door’ and you’re good to go. You can also set it to auto-lock if you’re in a hurry, and the Anona Holo will, well, automatically lock the door for you when you leave.

There’s a particular demographic that I can see the Holo being particularly useful for beyond just you and I: Airbnb owners. If you pair the Holo with the Anona Keypad then you can set up a one-time passcode through the app. Instead of leaving a physical key that is vulnerable to thieves, you could just send the passcode to your guests and they can get in that way.

It’s a great little innovation that makes stuff like that much easier. And not to worry, the Holo doesn’t replace a physical key entirely which you can still use if the connection drops out or something else malfunctions.

Like the Aurora camera, the Holo is wireless, powered this time by four AA batteries so if you run out in a pinch, you can simply put new batteries in. Plus it looks pretty stylish too and fits into a modern aesthetic. What’s not to like, folks!

Who Should Buy These?

Building your ideal smart home is a fun process. There’s a lot of trial and error, but ultimately, you just want stuff that actually works without being gimmicky. Anona brings that in spades.
